Description
General Description
Sodium Deoxycholate is a sodium salt of Deoxycholic acid, an ionic detergent, which has exceptional ability to lyse cells and solubilize membrane-bound proteins. Its mechanism involves disrupting cell membranes and dissolving hydrophobic molecules, making it an invaluable reagent in scientific research applications. In protein research, it plays a pivotal role in solubilizing proteins, particularly those embedded in membranes, enabling their extraction, purification, and subsequent analysis. Sodium deoxycholate is a bile acid formed by bacterial action from cholate. It is usually conjugated with glycine or taurine. Deoxycholic acid acts as a detergent to solubilize fats for intestinal absorption, is reabsorbed itself, and is used as a choleretic and detergent.
