Acrylamide is used for preparing slab gel gradients for PAGE (Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis). It is a reactive, water-soluble vinyl monomer, and causes a decrease in the number of neuritis per cell as well as reduces the rate of protein synthesis.
