Alamar Blue Cell Viability Assay

Alamar Blue Cell Viability Assay Reagent is designed to quantitatively measure the proliferation of various human and animal cell lines, bacteria, and fungi. The Alamar Blue reagent is a resazurin based, ready to use solution, that functions as an indicator of cell health by using the reducing power of living cells to quantitatively measure viability.

Resazurinis, the active ingredient of Alamar Blue is a non-toxic cell-permeable, non-fluorescent blue colored compound and upon entering the living cells, gets reduced to resorufin, a red colored highly fluorescent compound. The changes in cell viability can be easily detected using either an absorbance or fluorescence-based microplate reader. The assay is homogeneous, requires no cell lysis or washing, offers a simple, reliable, sensitive and cost-effective measurement of cell viability.

The Alamar Blue Reagent allows for viability studies of chemical inhibitors on tumor cell lines and toxicology research to establish baseline data for predicting the toxicity of related novel agents by comparing such baseline data with known in vivo toxicity. Viable cells maintain a reducing environment within their cytoplasm.
