Penicillin-Streptomycin Solution

Penicillin-Streptomycin Solution is an antibiotic solution used to prevent bacterial contamination in cell culture, however, it has no activity against fungi contamination. The two antibiotics: penicillin and streptomycin in the mixture are very effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, ensuring that cell cultures remain free from microbial contamination. This solution is supplied in a 100x concentration to make dispensing into liquid medium more convenient and contains 10,000 IU/mL Penicillin, 10,000 μg/mL Streptomycin.

Mechanism of Action:

Penicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall (peptidoglycan) synthesis, effective against Gram-positive bacteria and Streptomycin binds to bacterial ribosomes, stopping protein synthesis, effective against Gram-negative bacteria.
