Description
General description
Guanidine hydrochloride is a strong organic base existing primarily as guanidium ions at physiological pH. It is a strong chaotropic agent useful for the denaturation and subsequent refolding of proteins. This strong denaturant can easily solubilize insoluble or denatured proteins like inclusion bodies which can be used as the first step in the refolding process for proteins or enzymes into their active form. Urea and dithiothreitol (DTT) addition might be necessary for desired effects.
