SDS; Sodium dodecyl sulfate Solution 10%

The SDS; Sodium dodecyl sulfate Solution 10% is an aqueous preparation and ready to use solution for laboratory experiments. It is commonly used for denaturation of proteins and disruption of lipid membranes in biochemical sample preparation and electrophoresis experiments.

SDS is a protein denaturant used in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis for molecular weight determinations. It is also used to dissociate nucleic acid-protein complexes in DNA extraction protocols, to disrupt cell membranes, and to prepare prehybridization and hybridization solutions.

Applications:

• Preparation of protein samples for SDS-PAGE, maintaining a uniform charge-to-mass ratio during electrophoresis
• Used in Laemmli sample buffer and related protocols
• Solubilization of membrane proteins
• Lysis of bacterial cells such as coli for protein extraction.
• Used with Tris–glycine and MES/MOPS buffer in gel electrophoresis
• Used in Western blotting buffers

NOTE:

1. Storage is recommended at ambient temperature. The SDS solution may precipitate at lower temperatures; before use, warm it room temperature without shaking and mix gently to ensure complete dissolution.
